Do you live in the area of 22204 and want skin that is more youthful? See your dermatologist for IPL therapy

See your dermatologist for IPL therapy

Within the field of cosmetic dermatology skin concerns can be addressed in several ways. Washington Dermatology Consultants offers customized treatment planning for each of our patients so that their desired appearance can be achieved.

Photofacials, also known as IPL therapy, are highly customizable treatments designed to reduce the discoloration that comes from overexposure to UV rays and other areas of hyperpigmentation.

Non-abrasive, non-invasive IPL therapy in our Arlington and Stafford offices is performed using the LimeLight photofacial device. This form of photofacial therapy differs from other treatments in its gentleness. Designed to address the damage of sun exposure, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths of light into the skin, where discoloration, fine lines, and sun spots are successfully corrected. In some instances, LimeLight phototherapy can also diminish the redness associated with rosacea.

How it works

When treated with phototherapy, the blood within pigmented cells on the top layer of skin heats up. In the heated state, blood and pigment both become more spread out, decreasing the appearance of darkness or redness. After treatment, skin appears smoother and more even.

Light energy is delivered to the skin via a hand piece guided across the treatment area by a highly trained professional. Patients feel light snaps or a stinging sensation as energy is absorbed in the skin. Phototherapy treatment is quite comfortable, though patients who are concerned about comfort may request the application of a topical anesthetic before their session. This solution should be left on the skin for thirty minutes before treatment. The phototherapy treatment takes only about twenty minutes.

Benefits of phototherapy with your 22204 dermatologist

Photofacial treatment is comfortable and convenient, providing a painless way to reduce visible signs of sun damage from the skin on the face, neck, chest, or other area. In addition to breaking up pigment in sun spots and other discoloration, phototherapy also encourages collagen production, which reduces pore size and promotes tighter, smoother skin.

Following treatment, areas of discoloration may become slightly darker. This is a normal response to treatment. Within one to three weeks, old, damaged skin cells will fall off. Patients notice the full effect of photofacial treatments in the weeks following treatment. During the month after phototherapy, the skin progressively improves.

You can enjoy spot-free skin. Contact Washington Dermatology Consultants for more information on phototherapy.
