You may imagine a rather harsh treatment with significant downtime when you think of a chemical peel. However, superficial peels are comparable to pampering facials with additional benefits.
The mildest peels are known as lunchtime procedures, because they can usually be completed in less than an hour, without unpleasant aftereffects. You can literally get treatment during your lunch hour and return to work immediately afterwards. There may be a bit of redness, which fades in about 20 minutes. What can be accomplished in a lunch hour?
The procedure is very similar to that of a medium or deep peel. The formula is applied to the skin, allowed to remain for a specific length of time, and then removed. The important difference is the lower concentration of active ingredients, and shorter time of contact with the skin. The procedure improves skin in two ways. Chemical peels can be used alone, or they may be incorporated into a treatment plan. However, those techniques do not affect the surface of the skin. Without the addition of resurfacing procedures, such as chemical peels or laser therapy, you would have aged-looking skin covering your youthful face.
