Laser Vein Treatment In Arlington

At Washington Dermatology Consultants, we use a state of the art laser that can treat a full range of vascular problems, from fine, superficial spider veins to deeper blue-colored veins. The process is quick, safe, and effective, with minimal blistering or bruising. Our laser utilizes an innovative design with a longer wavelength, enabling treatment of any skin tone, including tanned skin, with exceptional results.

The device delivers pulsed light, causing coagulation of the blood in the targeted vein. Over time, this process destroys the vessel and your body naturally absorbs it. The flow of blood is redirected to deeper, functional, veins, which is as it should be.

Laser vein treatment can be used on any part of the body. Telangiectasia (small visible veins on the face), can be corrected quickly with no complications or bruising. Small spider veins or larger blue veins can be treated effectively. However, this method is not recommended for treatment of large, twisted varicose veins. After a thorough examination, we will help you choose the best treatment for each vessel.

Patients often prefer laser treatment, rather than sclerotherapy, because injections are not necessary. Hemangiomas, commonly called blood blisters, can typically be treated with just one or two sessions. Other vascular lesions, such as port wine stains, are often unresponsive to other treatments. Patients have been pleasantly surprised to discover how effective laser therapy can be.

The number of sessions required depends on several factors, including the size, color, and number of vessels to be treated. For many patients, optimal results can be achieved in just one or two treatments.

The procedure is comfortable, and typically does not require pain medication or anesthesia. You may notice a mild stinging sensation, which ceases when the session is over. There is little to no soreness after treatment, though you may notice mild bruising or redness. If large veins are treated, there may be a brown or tan pigment, which will fade over a few weeks or months. You may be advised to wear compression stockings for a short time if leg veins are treated. Any swelling or redness that occurs should fade within 24 hours. In rare cases, there may be some blistering. The vast majority of patients report minimal, if any, side effects.

You will be able to resume most of your normal activities immediately following treatment. Strenuous activities should generally be limited for the first 24 hours. The treated area should be protected from sun exposure.

In most cases, visible results are seen between two and six weeks following treatment. Optimal results develop over several months. The treated vein will not return, but new ones may develop over time. If this occurs, they can be removed with future treatments.
