What is the difference between Botox®, Dysport, and Xeomin in Stafford?

Neuromodulators are among the most popular, and effective anti-aging treatments. While you may not be familiar with the term neuromodulator, you are surely familiar with the product, which you probably know as Botox®. It is an injectable medication, which softens hyper-functional muscles, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the overlying skin. Some patients are surprised to learn that Botox® is not the only brand available. Dysport and Xeomin are similar products, used for the same purpose. Naturally, many people ask what the differences are, and which formula works best. The simple answer is that all three are excellent.

Botox® Cosmetic

This is the first neuromodulator to be awarded FDA approval for aesthetic purposes. It is formulated with a purified form of botulinum toxin, along with proteins that are intended to extend the longevity of results. Botox® Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in 2002, and it has since become a household name.

Dysport

Developed in Europe, this product was approved by the FDA in 2009. It also utilizes a form of botulinum toxin, though it is less potent. More units of Dysport are needed to achieve the same degree of improvement as Botox®, but the price per unit is lower, making the overall cost comparable.

Xeomin

The newest name in neuromodulators, Xeomin was approved by the FDA in 2011. Like Botox® and Dysport, it is a botulinum toxin formula. What differentiates Xeomin is the absence of other proteins. It is theorized that patients may be less likely to build up immunity to this ultra-pure formula.

The best choice

Although studies have been conducted, there is not yet sufficient evidence to say that any formula has been proven superior in a specific situation. Additionally, it seems that reactions may vary from one person to the next. All three products should work very well for anyone who is a candidate, and they achieve very, very similar results. However, many people have a favorite product, which they swear by. If you do not yet have a favorite, we will help you choose the best one for you.
